I bought a standard entry stainless 210 gyuto tanaka as a gift for my brother and originally the handle was almost flush with the machi. Over the course of about a year or so, the handle migrated away from the machi and it has a really uncomfortable location that stabs your finger.
I gave the handle a tug and it wasn't loose at all, it didn't budge. Nothing was cracked and the knife isn't left anywhere to absorb water. Unofortunately I didn't take a photo, but it was pretty pronounced (maybe 8mm gap). He already packed it up and someone is dropping it off at Korin for them to reinstall the handle, but is this common?
