    Face Grain Board Examples

Face grain boards are on the opposite end of the spectrum from the end grain boards. Not that they are bad, they just don't provide the same benefits to your knife blades that the end grain does and they are limited on maximum thickness based on the thickness of milled boards available.

With that said, I'd still take a wood board over plastic/poly/mdf/bamboo any day!

I mean which one would you rather use?

Face grain boards are typically used as "sandwich" or every day boards. They are great for light prep work where heavy chopping and slicing is not required.

Here are a few examples of some recent boards I have made:

    Walnut/Goncalo Alves (Tigerwood):

    Variety of 10" round boards:

    Solid Walnut:

    Goncalo Alves/Yellowheart:

    Walnut/Padauk:

    Walnut/Zebrawood:

    Spalted Maple/Zebrawood:

    Walnut/Maple:

    Maple/Padauk/Walnut:

    Ash/Walnut/Purpleheart:

    Cherry/Walnut/Padauk:

The Maple/Walnut is right at 10"x12", I'll have to measure the Walnut/Wenge/Goncalo but it's either 11"x11" or 12"x12"
