So I ran my self cleaning oven over the weekend, it was really cold so extra heat from that was easy to adsorb. Now the lock will not disengage, I have flipped the breaker for half an hour and restarted and stopped the cleaning cycle to no avial. Has anyone had success using a coat hanger to disengage the lock. It's either that or call someone out, I'd prefer the cheap route since the lock is only important for the self clean.

Any input is appreciated, I'll probably try the hanger this weekend but didn't look to see how the latch grabbed so I am not really expecting a whole lot.

Probably obvious but look at YouTube to see if there are vid's that show how to disengage your lock ... always surprises me how much time & effort people go to, in their spare time, documenting these kind of things ... Good luck ...

Defeating SC locks seems to be a fave sport of home pizza baking enthusiasts, maybe look around on related sites :)

If you can't find your particular model just look for the manufacturer I bet they use a similar locking mechanism across models

Success! Always take a picture of your oven lock before you run the cleaning cycle!

Thank for the tip. I need to make a picture of mine!

at least the door wont accidentally open while i am dollying it out to the truck and to the dump. :)

My first reaction would be not to throw it away but to have an excuse to rip out the lock mechanism altogether - but then, I am not living with family.

An oven to fit the 48 inch hole costs around 10k so that was not the best option here :), however, I thought about it a couple of times.
