Ancient Bog Oak from Ukraine.
These are priced $45-$65. Good dark coloring and nice grain patterns. These blocks were cut from a log that was salvaged in an area where another tree was carbon dated to be 2800+ years old. Meaning that almost 3000 years ago these trees were washed away and became buried in the sediment. During that time the buried logs absorbed minerals from the sediment giving the dark coloring and a nice luster to the wood. The carbon dating certificate was the result of the testing done on a sample from one of the other logs. While the date is not exact it gives an estimate of the age of this wood. This is untreated wood. It has not been stabilized (chemically impregnated).
These blocks were left unstabilized so they can be used for projects that will involve carving, texturing or where a lighter weight material is desired in comparison to stabilized blocks.
For hard use knives I suggest waiting for the next batch of stabilized bog oak that should be arriving in about a week.

The Walnut blocks are extra thick blocks (about 2inch) average price $30.
These blocks were cut from the crotch section of an Eastern Black Walnut where the figure sometimes forms a feather. Hence the name "crotch feathers. The wood is noticeably harder than the west coast Walnuts. Very good coloring with an orange-ish tint. Good crotch figure that changes when the light hits from different angles. Eastern Black Walnut is a very durable wood that is suitable for use as handle material, even on heavy use knives. I prefer using a Danish Oil finish for the best results. This is untreated wood. It has not been stabilized (chemically impregnated).
I had not intended to offer more unstabilized walnut blocks, but the others sold out and there were requests for more.
