I'm helping a friend shop rescue knives as a grad present for her son. He will complete firefighting school soon and seems like an appropriate gift.

She wants to spend around $100. I'm looking for rugged stainless steel, at least partially serrated, a gut hook and a glass breaker. I like the Gerber Hinderer and the Spyderco Assist. A Benchmade I like is out of the price range but I may talk her up. Any others merit consideration?

Where's Lefty when you need him?

Rick Hinderer's knives are awesome and very solid (he was a firefighter). The gerber was designed by him, so I'd imagine it's up to snuff if he is putting his name on it.
