I bought this as a novelty knife. It's MASSIVE, it's beautiful, it has a perfect factory polish and bevel, it has a perfectly rounded spine, a gorgeous handle with the blondest of blonde buffalo horn ferrule and a matching saya with pin.

This blade is absolutely mint. Never used. Just taken out and admired.

I spoke to Takeshi Aoki at aframes who believe this might be a Mizuno

$500USD
Free shipping in North America. International pays anything above $30.

Measurements:

Length of blade: 300mm

Length of handle: 160mm

Height at heel: 57mm

Thickness at heel: 6-7mm

Is that a ceremonial knife used exclusively for key traditional banquets in Japan?

If I didn't have a small child...

Super specialized knife used for pike conger eel. I bought it because it's just amazing but haven't got any use for it. I suppose you could use it for other purposes if you don't care about the traditional side of things.

Actually its finish is so good because it would be on display when used! I'm sure it will have other uses and GLWS!

There's a few cool vids around of hamokiri being used, defo on the youtube awesome thread.
Regardless, I've always thought they are some of the most aesthetically beautiful knives around, and if this does turn out to be a Mizuno, it's a seriously good deal.

Perhaps Turkey carving, the Christmas/Thanksgiving traditional food event? Wish I had a bigger oven!

Great for impressing/scaring the in-laws...

It's not such a different shape, but I think you're referring to Gishikibocho

This inspired me to get one.
Happened to find one made of Tamhagane!
