I was always told during home-ec that I always had great knife skills! Went to a cooking class recently and got the same feedback. Want to get a good chef's knife to continue learning how to cook!
 
Someone had something about "good tools not making you better, practice making you better, good tools making you practice" as his signature. It is brilliant advice.

Mind that getting into "knife science" will make you a worse cook for a couple months, since you will be too focused on technique, and you will learn a lot of "there is a reason you don't cut XYZ that fine usually, even if you now can" lessons :)
