seki magoroku... nothing too fancy... he lists everything in the video description

seki magoroku is part of Kai corporation. The same company that makes shun knives and many other things in Japan (tweezers, nail file, scissors, and more).

Are you sure? This is a Seki Magoroku usuba, the kanji looks different: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japan-Made-...fe-Ginju-Steel-6-5-165mm-AK5212-/302187860077

He does link to another Seki Magoroku knife in the description, but he just always does that for all his videos as an affiliate link. He was using that gyuto in some earlier videos; he's got a pretty sweet Maumasi now instead :)

Edit: Ah, he posted a new comment identifying the knife. Didn't see that yesterday.

lol... i hope you dont take this the wrong way, but i think its hilarious that you ask the guy who can read the kanji if he is wrong. It seems that satoshin is a japanese guy from most of his posts.

Sorry, I haven't been on the forum much lately, I think it's actually the first time I read a message from SatoShin -- I had no idea he could read kanji. Plus, I thought he was just commenting on the relationship between the Kai and Magoroku names, rather than on the video.

Has anyone made similar discoveries in thrift shops -- in Japan or elsewhere?
It's hard to beat the Kiya Shig western gyuto: http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/archive/index.php/t-30890.html
