I use to say that about all Japanese knives for the increase in price, it cuts just like the ones from wal-mart?! then when i started to see certain knives as better, honyaki knives is where the fool and his money came into practice.
Now I am custom ordering honyaki blades - if the story is right that this was owned by some emperor it may be very well worth that much.

The stone is 800 years old if what they write is true. Whether that makes it more valuable is anybody's guess!!!
