Hi there. Long time lurker here.

Got a lot of good sharpening advice here, which I aim to get better at in 2018. I have a Tormek for woodworking chisel sharpening and it worked great on my German knives, but now that I have more Japanese knives I am looking to get better at stone sharpening. I'm certain I'll have a lot of dumb questions as try new techniques. :)

Thanks in advance all!

Welcome, Welcome. Newbie myself who already asked a lot of what I had thought to be dumb questions. Everyone has been very informative and welcoming even so.

Thanks guys. I can't buy any sharpening stones yet due to the holidays (wife says I am impossible to buy for since I usually just get whatever interests me at the time). But after the new year, I plan on learning hand-sharpening. I got a Shun Usuba for my birthday this year and love it which is what sparked my desire to learn stone sharpening (since it's obvious that is not meant for the Tormek).
