    Thanks guys. Work is painfully slow, so each completed knife brings a joy.

    No, it's to keep the shoulders (machi) lined up and tight against the guards. I borrowed this from Devin.

    It also makes it easier to inject epoxy inside the handle, so whatever void there is (inside the handle) it gets filled, making the handle pretty much sealed on the inside.
