I found this old cleaver on ebay and bought it really cheap. Nobody else bid on it so I paid $1 plus shipping.
I was thinking I would clean it up and give it a new handle.
I have never used a cleaver in the kitchen so this will probably be a kindling cleaver.

Congrats on a great deal and what nice wood for your little project.

They clean up really nice with Barkeep's friend BTW.

They're going really cheap on EBay lately, both of the Beatty cleavers I bought recently were under $20.

Nice. Are those koa scales?
Yes. They were some cut off pieces that weren't a match so I was going to use them on the cleaver.
The cleaver doesn't seem to have been used much so it isn't beat up. Just some light surface rust and it looks like someone sharpened it with a file one time.
Judging by the handle scales I took off, and that there was no makers mark, I am guessing that it was just a cheap junk cleaver. But it will keep me entertained for a while.
