    Marko's handles are tapered, but I believe you are incorrect when speaking of a "true wa handle" being wider at the butt end than at the ferrule. I've several that have no taper to speak of. It depends on the type of knife and the maker.

    Most Japanese handles taper typically 2-3 mm on width, and 3-5mm on height.

    What is a true wa handle? There are many variations.

    Quite true, Marko, most Japanese handles have a taper, but I had an Aritsugu petty and gyuto that had no taper to speak of.

    Much better. Today we are doing rope cutting test and some saya carving.

    We need to figure out some nuts and bolts first, so no videos or extensive coverage this time. I plan to test every HT for every steel, so there will be something in pics or video down the road.
