    Speaking of pocket knives.......

What is the optimum hardness for the blade on a pocket knife? I suppose it depends on how many cow leg bones one is going to saw through, butt generally speaking, how hard do custom makers typically take the HT to on a EDC?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not as nutty about folders as I am about kitchen knives, but:

58 HRC is for EDCs what 61 HRC is for kitchen knives--most are lower, some are higher. A 62hrc EDC is probably a custom. There are guys who do aftermarket heat treating to get them up there because people get pissed when they pay for s30v and get a 57hrc knife. Some folders, like a SAK or a Buck 110 are like 56hrc.

    I go to 61 on CPM 154

My buck knife is 420HC and is approximately 58 HRC. I actually prefer a lower grade in a hunting knife though.
