There is no American maker I know of that is known for and willing to make a chinese cleaver. Plenty of folks trying their hands at it, hopefully someone sticks--most hate it. Perhaps talk to J-Bro at JKI, or Dr. Naka at Hide's export, they have connections overseas(Dr. Naka is in Japan)!

Devin has the "Hoss" cleaver at CKTG (not in stock, and who knows when it will be again) and has agreed (though perhaps halfheartedly) to make me a custom.

Carter used to...but maybe not anymore.

Dr. Naka is taking a break from business right now (as of December at least, when I attempted to place an order).

I'm pretty sure that was just for Shigefusa orders. He's still a connected knife salesman in Asia. If I wanted a custom cleaver, I'd start there or with Jon.

Are you looking for a traditional TALL cleaver? Or any style? I don't know, I'm not a cleaver fan all the way but I would love a Takeda Cleaver. I don't know anyone aside from Andy who has owned the Chinese style cleaver, but several members who used his banno bunka and bocho style knives and love them. The Kuro' look and blue carbon hold dear to my heart as well. Jon is always the man too, it's hard to go wrong around here. You came to the correct place for sure. Welcome friend.

    Kind regards

    Bryan

Takeda cleavers (full-size!) are really nice. I also have to say Hoss (Devin Thomas) makes a seriously kick-ass cleaver. There are two others I've got here that I need to give more time to before saying much about them

Oh, and WELCOME to yet another cleaver fan

Well, the Watanabe qoute was about $600; but this was not damascus or handle customization. I could go $800-$900 depending on features. Thanks for the response!

Full size thin, regular chukabocho as I understand it. Will check out Takeda, have heard the name before. Thanks for the response!
