Hello to all the Australians out there and particularly the Sydney guys!! Great place to live but the weather is kinda weird, totally unlike Summer haha.

I just moved to Sydney from Singapore to study and would like to know where you guys go to get your kitchen hardware and stuff. Need to buy quite a bit of stuff and have searched websites and eBay, but would like to visit some stores to check them out. I'm also open to meet-ups and knife sharing sessions! I'm living in Meadowbank btw so any help would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks in Advance!

Hi Mel,

I have shopped at many places in Sydney. Each place has their own strength and weakness. I'll give a list of places that I frequently visit, at least to have a bit of a window shopping.
1. Peter's ok Kensington (www.petersofkensington.com.au) in Kensington has quite a big range, many good quality items, and quite at a good ozy price
2. The essential ingredient (http://www.sydneyessential.com.au/) in Rozelle has many good quality items, but also at a higher price
3. Le domaine (http://www.ledomaine.com.au), one of the newer player in on-line shopping, but has a little shopfront in Drummoyne. Usually very good price.
4. http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/, very good pricing, Sydney base, but out in the suburb
5. Victoria's Basement (www.victoriasbasement.com.au) has may stores, has many cheap entry level ranges.

And last, but also my favourite local shop

White Castle, 297-303 Princes Hwy Carlton. If you are down south i.e. south of the airport, try to swing by this shop. It is a cross between domestic and catering supply shop, has many goodies at usually a very good price.

From Meadowbank, you should be able to get to The essential ingredients, Le domaine, and Victoria's basement in Auburn easily.

Hi, schanop!! Thanks and I will check them out. Have been to Victoria's basement at QVB and essential ingredients at rozelle. Vic's basement is quite nice and they have a 70% sale going on now but can't seem to find pepper mills haha. Essential Ingredient is quite high end lol been there and couldn't afford anything. Have you check out Chef's Warehouse on Albion Street? Was planning to go there but kept putting it off cause of rain.

Cheers and hope to maybe see you one day!

Hi Mel,

I use pepper mill and salt mill from VB's own brand Benzer. Quite nice and cheap. Also use and end grain block from VB too. And don't be fooled by 70% off from VB, price is always like that. There might be some items that are slightly cheaper during sale time. And once they have marked down a price for an item, it stays down until stock runs out.

I've been to chef's warehouse, only opens weekdays AFAIR. It has quite a good catering supply range, but not that cheap, I think.

If you are in need of some chinese cooking equipments, I can recommend Tim Leung in Burwood. Some other chinese shops in other suburbs may be cheaper, but this place has lots of stuffs and lots of cleavers.

Next time you are at a bookstore, have a quick look at SMH good food shopping guide, and foodies guide to sydney. Both have quite a good list of where to go for ingredients and equipments.
