    I actually have had this knife for years (an ebay special). It is ugly, but it truly, actually, works! the holes release the food (great with cucumbers, onions, and carrots) and the line above then in the picture is actually a raised ridge about 1mm thick that pushes the food away from the blade. The steel is about equivalent to Global steel in sharpenability and edge retention.

    my vote goes for "kabocho" (kabocha means pumpkin... so this naming itself is meant to be "funny).

    I was doing some business with a guy before, unrelated to knives, and when he asked me about making knives and whatnot, he showed off some EXACTLY like those. I was, uh, not too impressed. Corian storage board thing. Fit and finish wasn't exactly seamless. Not to mention key performance aspects...
