So last year I built a stone firepit as part of a small additional patio. I've been kicking myself that I didn't install some base plates or other means to support a roasting spit. The inside diameter is around 40", and I'm not sure if I prefer to support the spit from the 'walls' or from clear outside the pit - which is closer to 60 - 65" diameter. I've seen some parts, including rods, counterweights and motors, but these have been aimed at grills, not an open pit.

Does anyone know of metals workers or the like that make custom sized spits? I was thinking possibly some of the BBQ makers like David Klose.

Here is a link to a photo (I'm still a newb using Picassa, so bear with the inevitable format problems ).

Great pit! A spit will go wonderfully there!
