...wasn't referring to prices, just the fact that in suisin case, you can take a $500 knife, put a plain ebony handle on it, and double the price. That's the "Really" part. It doesn't make sense because I can buy that knife (actually I own it and am about to list it for sale), ask Marko to put a handle on it and pay a lot less than the listed ebony upgrade.

Seth - I was thinking the exact same thing the last time I was on the Korin site.

The $3,800 version really is silly. For another $1,200 I could make an offer on a Nenohi....

Well... I can get a great piece of handle wood for basically nothing. Put a couple of swirls in it and it becomes a $50 piece. Put like 5-10 swirls in it and it becomes a $100 piece of handle material. It's not that I won't pay it but sometimes, when I think about it, it's pretty stupid. Clearly, some of my friends give me the "stupid look" when I tell them I just bought a scrap of wood for $50 or something.

I don't tell anyone how much money I spend on this stuff except here. How about $500+ for a piece of rock?

yeah, that's way more stupid to me than 500 for a good quality tool. (my wife and I have very inexpesive silver bands..about $30 for the PAIR )

Yeah, so does my wife. I am about to sink a lot more than $500 into a pair of earrings for her.
Makes my knife obsession look tame.
