You use a lot of mammoth parts. How easy is it to get this stuff and how much of a supply is there? Aside from the mammoth recently dethawed I'm sure there isn't a vast amount of this stuff around.
You are right. the supply is VERY limited. and although I have been blessed to work with alot of this awesome material. I am not sure what the world supply of it would be. I can only guess there is alot of tusks in private collections. and a bunch in storage in warehouses somewhere in China. I do know they find more every year as things thaw. and or mining is done. and what not.
So in a word. Its a rare material that is only going to become more rare as time goes by and the limited supply is used. And eventually they will have found the majority of the tusks and the supply will run out.
Holy crap Randy! Awesome T-Hawk!
"See... the problem here is that... my little brother, this morning, got his arm caught in the microwave, and uh... my grandmother dropped acid and she freaked out, and hijacked a school bus full of... penguins, so it's kind of a family crisis... so come back later? Great."

This blade is approx 7.5" on the edge. and just over 2 tall. Not sure if It would be considered a Gyuto? or something else? Please give me your input.
Im calling it a guyto! I have seen some knives called funayuki's Can someone tell me what the difference in the 2 would be?
This one is 190mm on the edge. and 52mm high at the heel.

It wasn't very long ago that I was not able to offer Feather Gyuto's. Because Randy Jr is very fussy about how the feather pattern looks.. (Just ask Son.) At that time, he did not like the flow of the pattern when made 2+ inches wide. But he has refined the way he makes this pattern and it allows for the pattern to remain crisp and have the "look" he is happy with. And in my opinion. his feather is just getting better and better.
Im really proud of my boy and that he wont settle. Its gota be "right" and to a high standard or he wont make it, or if he does. He wont let me use it! lol There have been a few billets that I would of been happy to use. and he just wont hear of it!
Thanks Von B. Ill give Jr a Ata'boy..
