    Its been a while but don't remember any of the Shapton Pro's being gritty. If anything, is was too smooth, glass like, especially the 5k stone.

    the 5k is but for me the 1k was pretty bad.

    Have not used the 5 k, but the 2k is probably my most used stone.

    I like the 2k as well, the 8k is also really nice, sold the 12k the grit was inconsistent, it would leave inconsistent scratch pattern.

    Sounds like a 2k and an 8k would be a great pair, the best reviews here of the set.
