For those of you who prefer to sharpen with diamond plates, I have a few questions. What do you feel the advantages of diamond plates are? What diamond plates do you sharpen on? Are there any special techniques for sharpening on diamond plates?

Until recently that was all I used, DMT, Eze-Lap, and Lansky. They cut fast, clean up easily, won't dish out, are relatively economical and I have never had one wear out. If you get new ones sharpen a bunch of old beaters on it first 10-15 to sort of season them out. They do cut VERY aggressively when new. If they load up with swarf scubb them w/ scouring power and use only water or soapy water as a lubricant.
