Yes, it is a great brush clearing tool and works more like a small machete then a hatchet. it is much more versatile and less cumbersome.
 
That DOES look like a great tool for the yard. Given some of the weeds that have grown so well this year, I might have to look into one. Looks like it would do a number on blackberry and thistle.
