Combination knife with a handle of brass and bone. The dials have to be set to the right combination for the blade to be opened. Date under
the dial formed as a moon.

In 1866, this knife was dredged from the Thames at Queenhithe, London. The wood is in suprisingly good condition. The rust has been
removed from the blade, revealing pitting. It is possible to see the crystalline structure of the steel in the lines along the blade. This is usually
only seen when the steel is shaped by heating in a forge and hammering.

where do you find this stuff? :)

really interesting.

I find things mostly in libraries collections .
Trying to find things related to kitchen cutlery is a narrow field , you can look through a 1000 pages and find maybe two things and sometimes you can find whole catalogs . but that is a collectors market .
so i post what may come along and pictures can tell a lot about history.

I love the top one.
Has kind of a "steam punk" flavor.

To have a combination lock on a folding knife from 1699 is very cool.
