I live not far from Japan Woodworker in Alameda, CA. Called them today to see if they had any Shigefusas in stock, and found out that the store was just taken over by another company. Though they still do mail order, the Alameda location is closed.

Crap!

They said they would have to get back to me Monday. They almost always have Shigs in stock, and the beauty of living nearby was that I could go in and fondle them. No more.

So did they have any shigs in stock?!? ;p

That's a bummer for sure. Everyone is hurting though.

Actually, I don't know that it was 'hurting' so much as it was the folks who owned it decided to retire, and the best option available to them was to sell the business to a woodworking company, Woodcraft.

Story about it here; http://www.finewoodworking.com/item/104321/woodcraft-to-acquire-japan-woodworker

Who knows the true facts of the matter?

Stu.

(If you need to point fingers, might as well point them at me as much as anyone.)

Wow. To think I just went there this past summer. I had no idea.
