If it's any consolation Son, I had the same reaction... I also just received a 24x18 maple Boardsmith in the mail yesterday, so I'm very board centric as of late.
Hi Joels~!
We don't carry wooden cutting boards because wooden cutting boards are banned in commercial kitchens in many states (including NY) by the health department. Wooden kitchen products are also banned in most, if not all, cruise lines. So much so that they don't allow knives with wooden handles.
We know that the consumer market likes wooden cutting boards, but there just isn't much of a demand for it in commercial kitchens.
But with that being said, my coworkers all like the rubber cutting boards better than wooden one. They have all bought them. LOL They are aesthetically pleasing, non-slip surface, pretty scratch resistant (depending on the cutting board), and easy on knives for longer edge retention.
I do however love the beautiful wooden cutting board by the vendor here too.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for posting and asking.
