I just did a mirror polish with something similar called polishing paper. Not sure what the 'film' part is.
Likely just semantics. I understand mirror polish, was wondering if a coarser grit is ever used to achieve a different finish, and if there is any special technique. ( Like there are many methods to etch).

I think they call this "film" as it is on a flexible non-paper backing.
To my understanding it's just diamond sandpaper. I think that one original use was for polishing the ends of fiber optic cables.

I use diamond lapping films like that to hand-polish the nasty MC carbide-rich steels.
What grit and what polish/finish does it leave?
It's 9 micron (looking at the color and comparing to the 3M Datasheet). From there you can compare on one of the grit charts to see how it compares.
