    That's funny, because most western makers that specialize in wide bevels almost always prepare them better than most shops out of Japan.

    Shobu Iromono in particular hits a certain balance between fineness, muddiness, feedback, and ease of use. You can get some really good, fairly easy results with them in general. They used to be my go to finisher years ago for polishing until I moved on to harder, finer stones.

    I don't find that finer stones cloud up wrought at all. If the bevel is prepared prestinely or close to, fine stones bring out every detail with clarity. Scratches for that matter to. If I'm getting a good burnish on the bevel with a fine stone suited for knives, there shouldn't be any scratches...
