I own this knife. I paid like $325 here in BST. I HIGHLY recommend this knife. I love mine and use it regularly. I own a lot of good stuff...and to think I could’ve got it for $250.
This looks like a design flaw based on the various cases I’ve seen. Also, did I understand correctly that Japanese market only sells Based Stones? Interesting
It’s terrifying putting a perfectly good $500 knive on a 150...that’s after wasting two hours on a Naniwa 400. But I figure that’s the cost of a good education.
My limited experience already dictates that what seems like a fairly easy job always turns out to be more work than it looked like. And once you get started there’s no turning back.
One alternative is to send it to somebody like Jon Broida to get it fixed...if you have a sentimental attachment to this knife and want to ensure it’s restored properly. However, if you don’t mind spending the time trying to fix it, you’ll learn more than the knife is worth...even if you screw...
I want to polish the bevels on several knives...you know that kasumi thing...beginning with the oob finish all the way up to jnat. Taking for example the wide bevel style that is the Tanaka+Kyuzo, what grit would you start with?
