    Domed whetstones?

And from my experience and talks with sword polishers that’s exactly what this is about 👍🏻 There are lots of techniques in sword polishing that make it very different from knife sharpening. First and most important thing is that they don’t try to get the blade sharp but this will just happen...

Ebony Handles from Knives & Stones

Yes, you have to be careful especially with the low grits or you end up with an oval handle instead of an octagonal 😊.

Ebony Handles from Knives & Stones

I went down to 80 to sand down the spacer and round the whole thing for an overall smoother grip. But I agree, if you just want to make it feel a little more like wood 220 will definitely do.

    Wood base for wonky stone

Sure, no problem. First I transferred the outlines of the stones base to the wood. I did this as they are although I knew they would be way off because of all the different angles I had to cut. Afterwards I started carving out the wood on the side where the stone would sit deep in the wood...

    Wood base for wonky stone

Built a Dai from Larch wood for an old creamy Aoto. The stone had a level problem, it was very skewed. I forgot to take more pictures of the project so it’s mainly the outcome I can show you. The stone had to be glued in place because the corners are very round and it would not have been steady...

Ebony Handles from Knives & Stones

Sanded down my KnS handle today and there was definitely some blackish violet stuff on it because it discolored the corian spacer until everything was gone. The handle is still very dark but shows some nice grain under good lighting but is almost impossible to photograph. Not sure about the...

Ebony Handles from Knives & Stones

Was boiling it necessary in the end? I’m thinking of replacing the handle on my Tanaka, I hate that the corian spacer starts to stick out due to the wood shrinking. I was wondering how to best get it off without doing too much unnecessary damage.

WTS Alexander Bazes left handed kiridashi

Still in fund raising mode I have decided that I will let go of my Bazes lefty kiridashi. It is a little on the smaller end with a total length of 175mm and 40mm edg The craftsmanship on this one is outstanding with lots of taper and a beautiful finish. I only tried one fine Suita with this to...

Ebony Handles from Knives & Stones

It is indeed possible that it’s lacquered, hard to tell. They definitely use some kind of finish as the thing got no wood texture at all. It somewhat reminds me of the floor oil I use on my wooden stone benches.

Ebony Handles from Knives & Stones

I have one knife with a KnS handle. The only thing I can complain about is the ridiculously high grit finish that it has. It feels very slick but you can easily sand it a little coarser if you want some more grip. Other than that it’s a beautiful handle.
