    Columbia knives?

BTW, this sold for $24.50 (+13.60S&H) so not quite $40 in the end. Pretty nice score for a 50+ year-old knife in better than very good condition. . . BTW, This Tappe Solingen 10 inch blade sold for ~$120, from the same seller. As your resident vintage Solingen knerd I've seen that that name...

    Columbia knives?

Anybody know anything about them? USA made I assume. Dexter 489 clone. With Henckels/Western style finger guard. Looks like a 1950s/'60s style.

Repairing gaps between tang and scale?

And here is "what not to do". Dunno what I did, I think maybe tightbond and sawdust mixed... It certainly works but it's ugly af and more than that still unsanitary af. One 'before' image: Three 'after' images:

    Please 'splain this

I have the same Wusthof knife OP shows and I never use it. The etchings on the lower portion of the blade face do nothing and the overall profile is something I'm not a fan of. Having said all that I'm gonna try and find it and throw it in my kit for work this week.

Repairing gaps between tang and scale?

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. This is a great option since I probably would have just popped those scales right off, especially considering they look only pinned in place. Sometimes it's nice to keep the wood original to the knife. Here's an example I showed a few years ago; popped...

    Ebay horrors

All for the low low price of $59.99 (+S&H) This used to be one of the best American-made carbon knife profiles; the Dexter 489x. But it's not anymore.

Weck & Muller 639S-5.5" boning knife

Weck & Müller is a brand that, as far as I can find out, was a post-WW2 knife maker from Solingen, Germany. I've found no activity from them for Third Reich blades, and none in the straight razor community either. I was told on a German knife forum they were bought out by Burgvogel/Bahns "at...

    Ebay horrors

Only a bit cringey this one, not quite horrific: Mostly because of the seller's item's description which reads: Nice patina, needs some restoration or love. The "patina" description is just a bit of a stretch, as is the BIN price of $69 (+S&H), but I'm hard-pressed to call the condition of this...

Weck & Muller 639S-5.5" boning knife

Got this cheap from ebay to fill out my W&M butcher's collection. It had a reasonable price since it had a hole in the handle. Seller's pix: Here's the hole close-up. Driller seemed to manage to even hit the tang. Haven't got too many decent images of the rehab as my phone went down...

Just out of curiosity, what did the Henckels sell for?

    Ebay horrors

Henckels has used some weird logos in their history: The double twins (lower left in the above image) is now standard for their German-made blades and the man-with-halberd (directly above the doubletwins) is now standard for their 'International' line made in China, Spain and India). But I've...

Some NOS (New Old Stock) J.A.Henckels pairing knives.

These beauties arrived yesterday and I'm quite happy. They looked very clean form the auction photos and in-hand they seem to be never used, possibly even with the factory lacquer on a couple of them (the middle two). The uppermost knife also looked to possibly have a little rust on it so I'm...
