    Plasters delivered with a knife....

Hahaha well this thread has turned.... Next time I cut myself I will be sure to spread it over the nearest carbon knife, but the Yuki is stainless clad so wouldn't help much. As for the wound, it looks bloody pansy this morning (sorry another English phrase...) Cant believe so much blood came...

That would be a type of pudding that would almost always have what you consider pudding on it.

    Plasters delivered with a knife....

Ah you are quite right sir, thanks for that! You have just reminded me of this gem of an article too! British food explained for Americans. Everything in it is completely true as well! https://www.buzzfeed.com/lukebailey/british-food-explained-for-americans

    Plasters delivered with a knife....

So a certain retailer of Japanese knives here in the UK send knifes out with a couple of blue plasters as a bit of a joke. So I was sat at my desk laughing about it with my colleagues as I have just taken delivery of a beautiful Masakage Yuki Honesuki..... Only a few minute later there I am...

    Knife rescue thread

When I say she will cut herself I don't mean small nicks from not looking what she's doing.... I once walked in on her cutting open a bread roll (with a bread knife - using the correct one was at least an improvement) with the roll in the palm of her hand. Yes we ended up in A&E and she got 3...

    Knife rescue thread

Glad I am not the only one who keeps different knives for the misses to use. She ones used one of my Carbon knives to cut an onion and then walked off to take the little one to the toilet. Came back to a rusty mess on the chopping board. Luckily it cleaned up ok. But ever since then she has had...

Aye! I work with a Swedish guy and we usually go to him for translations from that part of the world. Even German he manages quite well!

    Japanese Knife ID

I managed to find a couple of the characters which are the last 2. Second to last is concentrated or dark, last one is heavy.

    Only 4 stitches...

You know a knife is sharp when you cut yourself and see no blood for a few seconds and then it starts to pour out!

    How Acidic Food affects Sharpness

Great article and very well done experiment. I would be interested to see how having super sharp knives would affect the results. My thinking is that Stainless relies on the reaction of the Chromium to make a hard passive layer a few atoms deep to protect it from corrosion. Effectively its own...

    Sakai Knife - Japan

Most expensive knife I have is a Miyabi Gyuto which was over £300. Stunning knife but not sure I would pay that much for a knife again. Its more an art piece than a knife I would use everyday! The grind is certainly hand ground when you look at it. Not perfectly straight but I like that. Has...

Glass cutting board!!! (Lol sigh fml)

My gran used to use glass cutting boards and the exact same thing happened. My old man sharpened her knives for her and she went straight to slamming her way through carrots into the glass board. He never let her forget it! The thought of using one makes me feel physically sick!

    Which Deba to buy

Thanks for all your replies. I ended up buying a Nakiri from Sakai Knives in Japan as it is a knife I know well so I could judge them a bit better. I have made a separate post about that. But it has definitely enticed me to try a Deba from them as well soon. Will report back on that when I get it!
