Can vitrified diamond stones be flattened?

Vitrified matrix can be everything from super soft to superhard. Every manufacturer has its own idea on what is the perfect hardness. That was my biggest struggle in the past. Softer matrix has nicer feedback. Almost traditional waterstone like, but it's wearing out. Very hard matrix feels rough...

    chosera 3000 vs gesshin 4000

Geshin cuts faster and wears faster. Significantly better tactile feedback. Polishes worse than the 3k chosera.4k soaker gives a matt finish.

    Geshin stones?

Geshin soakers are the best soakers on the market imho. Amazing feedback. Cuts fast. Medium wear speed. 400 wears fast, but it will cut almost everything and the feedback is really good. Can't go wrong.

    Slowest wearing medium grit synthetic?

Most of the time VDS stones falls right in between electroplated and resin. Speed and surface finish wise it is exactly that. A little bit slower or very close to electroplated, but faster than resin. Same with the surface finish. Finer than electroplated, but resin is superior for polishing...

    Slowest wearing medium grit synthetic?

A solid #1000'ish resin diamond stone probably would give you everything you are looking for. Maybe with a boosted concentration for extra wear resistance.

1200 gives a pretty good mirror. 2k is not great imho. Not consistent. Can give so random deeper scratches.

Stones recommendations for high HRC, and vanadium carbide steels.

I agree. Some faster stones can do it though. Even though I'm a big believer in superabrasives I'm not going to scream that you need diamonds for everything with a 4%+ of V. Can it be done? Yes. Is it very efective? Ofcourse not.

So you have experienced the pain first-hand. If you are sharpening for money superabrasives is a must to have. Time management is essential to make decent profits.

Stones recommendations for high HRC, and vanadium carbide steels.

That is one of those topics, where is no absolute truth. I don't think you need diamonds for everything. I think if we are talking tipical production kitchen cutlery- modern waterstones are more than capable to complete the task. They are even capable to handle production stuff up to s90v. BUT...

    Diamond stones

SiC powder is your best friend here. Everything wears out. It's only a question of time. If we are talking about the really hard vit bond and you are one of those people who likes your stones perfectly flat, you have to keep an eye on the flatness of the stone. Don't let it dish too much...

A little bit over 6mm. Overkill for that grit for sure, but why not, it's Christmas after all 😉

    Who wants to speculate

Any knowledge on testing itself? Spherical wear resistance tesing with controlled presure and speed or something else?

Anyway, if the quality is good it looks like a good deal. If electroplated is your thing ofcourse.

    Who wants to speculate

Well it all looks written up nicely but I really don't think it will be something exciting. Looks like a smart marketing move from spyderco. Cbn must be beter right? In most cases- yes. In that particular one- not really. Now let's look into the dry facts that we as sharpeners shouldn't even...

    Diamond stones

Now. If you are just a regular sharpening geek vit stones will last you a very long time. Even if it is on the softer side. Purely because it is so fast cutting. So no worries here. Let's talk about the price here. Yes, they are expensive. It is the most expensive type of abrasive. The grade of...

    Diamond stones

Let's clear a few things out. First of all everything wears out. Unfortunately, Shirley Bassey was wrong, diamonds are not forever. Why does the coarse stones wears out the fastest? It applies to any bond type and any type of abrasive we tipically use in sharpening. Vit is not any different. It...

    Diamond stones

Hello, I will try to clear some misunderstandings regarding vit stones and superabrasives in general. If you have some specific questions- I will try my best to answer them. First of all, we should understand that there are no perfect abrasive. It is always a tradeoff. Always. Vitrified is not...
