"The truth is, the only three knives you really need are..."

What other kinds of bread are there? o_O ;) Perhaps I should add....worth eating? (said the Italian in the back of the room...)

    Knife vs Induction Cooker

And quieter. And makes for a much cooler shop, too. I know a few blacksmiths that are playing around with how much actual forging they can do with these units. One major drawback is that, in order to maximize efficiency, you need different sizes and shapes of coils for different sizes/shapes...

    German knife of coolness?

Here's another possibility. He wanted me to give you his e-mail: [email protected] I think he's in Thunder Bay?

Here's what I got when I put it out to my contacts:

    German knife of coolness?

I'll suggest doing some research to find a local bladesmith. I'm a member of the NWBA (Northwest Blacksmith Assn) and I know at least 5-6 smiths here in the PNW who would be able to make a great damascus blade for $500. Doing an internet search for knife making forums would be one way to find a...

Are there any good "Damascus" Kitchen Knives for up to 300$?

Another option (might take a bit more effort, but would be worth it) would be to locate any local makers/bladesmiths and have them make one for you. As a member of the NWBA (Northwest Blacksmith Assn) I know makers who make $10,000 damascus blades regularly, and members who make $300 blades...

    Hickory Burl

Is it possible to post a picture of the tree/burl? I don't have a huge amount of experience, but have cut up enough burls and burl-like objects to know that not everything that looks like a burl from the outside, is actually true burl, not a funky knot.

    PPE Q

From a breathing perspective, if you can smell it or taste it, it's getting into your lungs. If at the end of the day you blow your nose and your handkerchief is black, you're not filtering enough. If you cough up a loogie with dark steaks in it, you're not filtering enough.

    Wood handle, dishwasher damage

If the Vancouver location refers to WA, then you should also check out Gilmer Woods in NW Portland. https://www.gilmerwood.com/ But if you want to plan for the knife going into the dishwasher, using stabilized scales would probably be a good idea.

    Scooping/Scraping with your Knife

Does anyone who uses the edge to scrape/scoop on synthetic boards worry about adding any plastic shavings/grit to your dish? Oy! That made my backside pucker....

Delaminated Damascus Deba: How concerned should I be?

I wouldn't worry about it from a functional standpoint, either. However, as a knifemaker, I wouldn't want this type of publicity, so I'd suggest looking into a replacement. Unless this was sold as a knife with a blemish, I'll assume you expected one without any defects and IMO you do have a...

    Some of my work

Someone shared with me recently a picture from a maker here in the PNW named Salem Straub and a horizontal tang knife. Wondering who inspired who (or if, I guess).

Steel Properties that Knifemakers Care about and Users Don’t

Too bad. I'm sure it'd be nice for some makers to have the info for marketing purposes...

    Bladesmiths

I'm not sure it's OK to post links. Have you done a google (or other) search yet? If you need me to, I think we could start a private conversation. Just put your cursor over my name and a box should pop up.

    2020's been rough.

Thank you. I guess I'm fortunate that I've been preparing for this day for at least 6 months now. And, as they say, this isn't my first rodeo. But thank you for the thoughts. Stay safe everyone.

    2020's been rough.

Well, that upcoming day was closer than I thought....had to put Bear down today...the probable brain tumor finally grew to big for him to cope. Hopefully he's free now.

Is this tang good to go for gluing?
