WTB Devin Thomas Stainless Damascus Petty—Please!!!

I have one that I’ve used a few times in my kitchen testing a new steel combination. It’s still in new condition. Let me know. Great cutter. Hoss

Devin Thomas inducted into the Cutlery Hall of Fame

Yep, fun to meet you at the show. My knife making friend at the show is only 5’4” and just had surgery on his dominant arm. He wouldn’t have had a chance even if was 100%. I took seven and sold three, not bad for that show. BSW is mostly a fidget folder show. Country singer Zac Brown bought a...

    Kaiju and TF Steel

We’ve made and used lots of knives from lots of different steels over the years. Jackie has no idea what any of the gibberish means concerning steel and hrc etc. She will comment on the beauty of a knife. Having no idea what the knife is made from, her favorite steel is 26c3 (spicy white). Hoss

    Kaiju and TF Steel

You haven’t proven anything. Show me your testing, your background, education, show me something that makes you qualified to be so critical of others work and experience. Hoss

Larrin makes no claims, he does the testing and shows the results. He has never set out to prove or disprove anything, just does the testing. There have been some surprising results over the years. Hoss

San-mai cladding line / centering of the core steel

Rolling mill is best, power hammer is second best, and press is serviceable but not ideal. Hoss

    Damascus, yay or nay?

Larrin and I recently did a very large study on the performance of pattern welded damascus steel with some interesting results. Check out his YouTube channel. It’s about 50 minutes long but well worth it in my opinion. Hoss

San-mai cladding line / centering of the core steel

Yes, the cladding will tell you a lot. Sometimes the core is compressed and sometimes it gets a little off center, it doesn’t take much to look more exaggerated than it is. Hoss

Takefu doesn’t make steel, just rolls it out, including the laminated grades. Hoss

Devin Thomas inducted into the Cutlery Hall of Fame

I think they are no longer surprising nominees. They approached me at the Blade Show West and asked if would like to be nominated, they’ve also been open about the process. Thank you to everyone for your support, I’m very excited about this. I never thought this would happen. Much love and...

    Magnacut used in kitchen knives?

Niomax, MagnaCut, ApexUltra are all doing well, although Niomax is not being produced commercially yet. The next steel coming is MagnaWear, it’s been poured, needs to be hipped and rolled. It’s designed for high wear resistance, it’ll be a replacement for steels like S90V. MagnaTuff should be a...
