$70 shipped

150mm edge
28mm tall blade
3.5mm thick blade
68g blade only
98g blade and handle
136g everything

Straightened. As hard as a pretty hard kitchen knife lol, on the harder side. Feels like white steel, good and bitey, deburrs well. Ground thin behind the edge, burr formed really fast, tip is thinner ground. Low spots. A slight bend still at the tip but it was really hard to straighten. . . And I don't wanna risk breaking it. Ura could use a little more work at the tip. Contact everywhere else, except at very heel. Coarse scratches horizontal on ura from previous owner. Pitting and rust. Pitting at tip. Very very cool blade and saya. Handle is friction fit but very easy to knock off. Saya is very tight friction fit. Interesting knob for thumb to push saya off. Handle has heel guard made of wood. Little wood loop thing to put cord through to wear in belt. Wood oiled. Easiest to sharpen the heel by first removing the handle.

Makiri is a fisherman knife, but I read in Japanese that it has some Ainu history, Ainu were/are the indigenous people in Hokkaido.
Makiri were handmade by Ainu as daily tools but also for gifts/heirlooms etc. If you look on the auction sites you can find some really beautiful pieces which are clearly Ainu and handmade. If you read manga Golden Kamuy goes into the history of the makiri but I can't remember in which chapter.
