Thick knives save lives
Got this one a little while back as a polishing project but have since accumulated too many unagi knives, so I've decided to pass this one on as what should be a pretty cool project. Knife is 155mm from heel to broken tip, 31mm tall and 5mm thick, knife is dead straight and has some hammer marks on the hira from straightening, presumably by the smith. The kanji are worn but I'm 99% certain it's 東源正久, from Azuma Minamoto no Masahisa. The brand is the same as the tamahagane unagi knife I worked on recently (can be seen here), and I believe they were probably made by the same smith. The bevels are unfortunately concave, which is really the main "project" aspect of this knife. I do believe that they should be able to be flattened out and the knife should be able to be setup for stone polishing, but it'll take some elbow grease and some time, however in my opinion this knife is unique enough to be worth the effort, I hope y'all agree
I've done my best to show the banding that the steel has but it's a bit tough to do since the knife hasn't had a proper polish, if anybody would like some more pictures please let me know.
Specs:
Length: 155mm
Height: 31mm
Thickness: 5mm
Core steel unknown
