For Sale: circa 2014 Masamoto KS 240 Gyuto

$500 shipped CONUS

This Gyuto has light patina but still has the original lacquer on the blade. I purchased this knife only to use as a standard to evaluate other knives. Blonde marble ferrule and saya included. Very nice example of this iconic knife.

@enrico dude, yes. wow, thanks for remembering. crazily, just a couple days ago someone else was finally able to help -- but, funny enough, i was just wondering whether i could check an older/original one, too, versus the newer ones. will send a note to chuckles -- plus wishes for a happy sale with this beautiful example.

While we have you, how do the dimensions and experience differ between this and your Mizuno?

Ohhhhh man, wow. Crazy to think back that far. We could probably start a whole thread about the joys of scoring off bst back then. Especially a Mario gyuto!

I’ll be honest and say I don’t know what they are like these days. My recollection is that they were unavailable for a bit and then when they came back they were chunkier behind the edge and the distal taper was different. If somebody knows the answer please chime in.

$475

I used to hear really good thing about KS distal taper, seeing one in person tho there seems to be little distal taper, I guess the old one should be better.

How much does yours weigh? I think -- but am not at all sure -- that they got more laser-like over time. The definitely disappeared from the market, and I heard they needed a different producer but have no details (and what I heard was at best third hand).

@daddy yo yo do you remember when exactly you bought the one you sold me?
I think it's a fairly recent one (2-3 years old at this point?). Taper is stellar, best of all my knives. Largely because it starts tapering down pretty much mid-way and keeps tapering down consistently. Weight is 162 gram on mine.

I had one of the newer ones. It had great distal taper and wasn’t chunky at all behind the edge. Supposed difference was the older ones were supposed to have a little more beef at the heel, so more versatile with a chunky back end with distal taper and a really thin front end. The newer one were supposed to be a little more lasery but my was still close to 3 mm at the spine and had a wonderful distal taper, great knife imho.
