This one has not seen heavy use (even for a home cook) since I got it off BST in 2018, sharpened a handful of times most likely but no thinning or anything aggressive. I had it rehandled from the original ho handle. Specs from that posting are:

here are the specs for the Heiji:

- weight: 169 grams
- height: 47mm
- spine at heel: 3.5mm
- spine at tip @ 1cm: 1mm
- heel to tip: 210mm
- cutting edge: 215mm

Here is the link to that sale Heiji Wa Gyuto 210mm in Semi Stainless

Asking $325 $300 $275 $250 shipped CONUS.
Thanks,
Matt

Hmmm, no love for the Heiji. Lower price to $300 shipped CONUS.

I supplied the wood for the rehandle, but going thru my purchase history is not great as it was years ago. My best guess is it is Amboya Burl.

I have a bnib 240 that won’t move either. Glws.
This is not a bash in any way, but just to point out the economics of the weak yen. I could buy a brand new 240 for less than $200 straight from Heiji.

Why would I buy secondhand for more money? Heiji are great knives with incredible popularity and support, but the economics of the situation make it difficult.

Still, I appreciate the value add with the handle and wish you the best with your sale!

@Ochazuke I had not realized they had been devalued that much for a new one, thank you for pointing it out.
Are you maliciously misunderstanding me or do you just not get currency valuation differences?

The value for a new Heiji has not changed. A new 240mm is still ¥27500. Users still value them just as much. That price has not changed. It’s the value of the yen that has changed in regard to the USD.

The value for a new 240mm Gesshin Heiji, which also has a value add, is $550 and is sold out. The problem is not the knife.

I feel very iffy about the etiquette of an extended discussion like this on a BST thread, but you're ignoring the (significant) cost of shipping involved with Heiji direct orders and also that it takes months to receive a knife from Heiji – not to mention the fact that you don't quite know what the grind is going to look like when you receive it. I definitely see value add beyond the handle upgrade by buying a Heiji from a reputable member on BST.

Regarding the etiquette: it feels less acceptable to me for a seller to describe a knife brand as having become “devalued” just because it doesn’t sell at their price. I wasn’t bashing the seller, knife, or posting. Just explaining why the economics of the situation aren’t in their favor and then I added a supportive comment to hopefully boost the appeal and support the sale.

I don’t think it serves the knife, seller, or people here to learn to think that Heiji is a devalued knife though (which is the only reason I continued the conversation).
