Love this knife. Bought here from Higgins. It’s the bbq that has the best profile IMO. Used a lot for a while but hasn’t seen much use since. Knife has been thinned and maintained a true workhorse. The handle on this one is my favorite handle I have, came off something else in the past and shows lots of wear but I think it’s beautiful like that. Small microchip near heel, should come out next sharpen

Bought on vacation from carbon in Denver. Not sure why but I just don’t reach for this knife, buts it’s light and nimble fun to use. I would polish and clean up if I was keeping but I’ll let someone else do that. Super thin at the edge, like foil. Never touched stones. Small edge roll on two spots I tried to capture it, will sharpen right out when it gets its first sharpening.

This one is a damn shame. Damage at 160mm from heel. Had some friends stay over and told them please use this one since it’s stainless, well look what they did. Knife was practically new, but since the accident it’s been ignored almost 2 years. You can see i had some ideas to cut it down but I figured someone may want it as a project. Another note. When I got this from JNS the handle was all crooked, I cut off the last bit of the tang so the mount is perfect.

Rumor has it that those mazaki blades were heat treated in a Weber barbecue chock full of pine charcoal and lit ablaze by loose ash falling from Maksims cigarette. This imbued them with super steel like qualities.

In all seriousness I have owned two of the BBQ bois and they are a hair crispier on the stones. Very nice steel

If the kaeru falls through ill purchase it

Great knives and even better prices. (And if the kaeru falls through and then falls through again with @aszma I’ll take it 😅)

JNS or BBQ Mazakis have a different treatment, as stated before they are heated with coals and water quenched

the kanji on the "other side" reads White - Water - Charcoal , regular ones only have the White Kanji

I dont honestly know if there is any real performance difference, but its very cool on its own

Cheers
