Gang,

I got this Nao Yamamoto gyuto thinned by District cutlery a couple of months ago. It lost its original finish with the Damascus and I was curious about bringing it out again without Stone. I bought some Gator Piss that came in yesterday and I immediately started playing with it. I sanded the blade up to 3000 Grit on both sides. The first two times highlighted where I messed up sanding and the third time I'm not sure what happened on the right side of the blade as there's some weird flecking in the etching. I think it might be from not cleaning it thoroughly before the edge. I'm pretty satisfied overall.

Almost spat out my beer laughing. Had to google that. Seriously thought you were using crocodile pee as etchant.
Strong coffee was yesterday!

Results are very good looking though and there is nothing better than a tuned blade! Enjoy
Thanks 🤣 I'm going to give it another go to work out the kinks (i have kinks but I don't want my blade to also). A redditor gave me some good ideas to set the etch better. Having some stiction from it too.

Etch > light sanding with 0000 steel wool or other light/high grit abrasive > wash > etch > repeat until desired results happen or you decide to reset.

Yeah, I messed up the first time and wasn't thorough with the cleaning. It left a couple obvious spots. I followed the instructions on getting the carbides set but I'm going to try a couple extra things a maker recommended. If it works, I'll post it.
