Goodmorning everybody
I got my wife some knives, mostly Wusthof, and a couple of more expensive Japanese ones (I don't remember the brand)
I would like to gift her some stones for sharpening
I made my research and I arrived to:

chosera 400 +chosera 800
or
chosera 400 + shapton pro 2000

the price difference is negligible (15usd..), what do you think would be better ??
I think it is enough to start properly

I will add Powertec 71013 stone holder, but if you have a better suggestion in the same price range or (less!!) I will appreciate it
If I understood correctly, I should add a diamond flattening plate, but even later not immediately..

thank you for the feedback
ciaooo

What a nice opportunity to have a shared hobby together with your wife! If cutting is her specialty, maybe sharpening could be yours? Unless she wants to own both domains!

It is wise of you to limit your options. Of those two I think most people would suggest the Chosera 400 + SP2000.

If you don't see yourself doing the sharpening you may prefer to just get a Ken Onion Worksharp or a Tormek T1 for quick maintenance. Whenever you or she feels the urge to play with the knives and stones, they will always be there. But sharpening means a lot of black metal dust under your fingernails which, I suppose, you or she could cover up with nail polish :D

I like the saying "the time to buy a new vacuum cleaner is not when your wife is having a birthday, but when the store is having a sale".

thank you
at the moment she cut.. and I clean!
she is pushing to get some stones for a while! honestly, I was more into both the chosera, just to make the set..
the shop that sold us all the knives recommended for German steel something around 300/1000

Both choices are good.
I think SP 2000 is more popular than NP 800 but they are both good and really in the same range, the SP 2000 behaving like a 1k.

No way.
Chosera 800 is way finer then 800.
Shapton pro 2000 is more on the finer side of 2000 then on the coarse side, lets say 2500-3000. Absolutely not behaving like a 1k

For TS:
Since you also have japanese knives, i'd go for the 400/2000 combo. You get an sharper feeling knive out of this stone.

I have both the SP2k and NP800. The difference in final result is very small, both ending somewhere around 1.2-1.5k. The NP will start more aggressively, though. It's a very versatile stone: depending on pressure, amount of mud, water, you may use in different ways, from thinning behind the edge if you have no coarser stone, to deburring soft German stainless.
It offers a tremendous tactile feedback.
The SP is more straightforward. For deburring it is just a bit easier than the NP.
Both are excellent stones.

If your wife is the type who likes things matching and neat/tidy, the shapton field holder + SG500 + SG2000/SP2000 is a great set. Everything stacks up neatly in the holder when you’re not using it.

Personally I have SG500/SG1000/SG4000 and use my 4k the most, but SG500/SG2000 is a nice 2-stone set. I think folks who’ve used both prefer the SP2000 to the SG2000, but I have no personal experience with either.

Probably also want an Atoma 140 or other flattening stone.

sorry guys, I still didn't pull the trigger!!
I found a good deal for shapton pro 320+1000 (I think chosera would be nicer but these cost half..)
or for the same price as the chosera: shapton glass 320+1000 (so again, the double of the pro, but if I understood correctly shapton glass should be superior to chosera..)
I still have some days to decide...

We're talking about 2 stones here?!

Every stone you choose here is a high-quality stone.

In addition, it is not a question of whether a shapton is superior to a chosera - unfortunately it is not that simple! In addition, it is about personal preferences and personal feelings.

Since these are the first stones, you or your wife have no personal preferences or personal feelings about stones - so don't make your selection unnecessarily complicated and simply buy 2 stones from your pre-selection. No matter whether Shapton Pro, Glass or Naniwa Pro/Cho. Either you go according to your gut feeling or rationally according to the price.

And then, when you or your wife have had experience with the stones, you can see what you like and what you don't. and on this basis (personal feelings and preferences) you can choose another stone better.

But first you have to put your foot in the water... without thinking twice

ahahaha
thank you
so I will go for the cheapest!! shapton pro 320+1000!!
The NP400 is at least 87 times better than the Shapton 320. NP400 feels nice, leaves a nice edge, can be her last stone after some practice. The 320 doesn’t feel nice, doesn’t have a nice edge, isn’t aggressive enough for re making bevels.
