Best way to fix this? 500 stone? 140 Atoma? It’s a TF 150mm Nashiji Petty. I don’t want to talk about it.

I feel your pain. I recently dropped my Akifusa. Made the wise decision to not try to catch it. Can't afford to lose any fingers. It lost 6-7mm off the tip. No idea where the tip ended up. I fixed with 180 and 240 grit sandpaper mounted to the Kasfly, but a coarse stone (500) will be fine, especially on carbon steel. I'll post some pics in a while.

This looks pretty minor and easy to fix. I have found the easiest way to fix a tip is to grind the spine side of the tip (at, say 60 degree angle to the edge) until the spine meets the unbroken edge, then round out the curve of the spine by grinding further up the spine (towards the handle), at a progressively lower angle. How far up the spine you round out the curve depends on personal taste.

Needless to say, either blunten the knife (very gentle breadknifing on a dry fine stone should blunt it without making it too hard to resharpen) before doing this or at least be extremely careful that you don't chop any fingers off.

If you blunten the knife, it's not a bad opportunity to ease the spine and choil if that needs doing.

If you were to instead attempt to fix by thinning the tip end of the knife, you may get into all sorts of trouble trying to maintain the grind.

Yep,what Nemo said. I had to fix one just like that and I did exactly how Nemo suggested and it didn't take long at all and you can't even tell.

Spine edge though like nemo said right?
Yes...you fix it top down so you save as much of the original edge as possible.
I saw in your other post, in the 8K Gesshin, thread that you were worried about losing height but that won't be a problem if you just re-profile the tip top down to meet the current edge.
 
Did it this way on a Yoshimune santoku. I've tried using a diamond plate for these repairs but I prefer either the narrow side of a pink brick 220 or a remnant (the last few mm) of a Sigma 240.

Hey this went well. Thanks for all of the help! Took the spine to my 140 and then cleaned up the tip with the 1.2k and just finished the entire thing on my 5k. After I took the picture I cleaned it up with some 180 grit sandpaper.

Edit: The tip could be pointier, but it is absolutely good enough for now. It’s the second time (in 4 years) I’ve tipped this knife so the point wasn’t ever that pointy anyway.
