Christmas time if you're in the market for Jnats. Quite a lot available but only for a short time - literally a few days - as I'm about to move. Many are really bargain-priced but if some don't sell I'm unlikely to offer them again. If they all do, then I'll need to start a new collection. All stones are good, prices generally far below what I paid.

Also looking to sell several items together so please have a look at my other BST threads just posted today too:

Knives (http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/showthread.php/30461-4-(or-5-)-knives-Fujiwara-Kato-Shigehiro-Takeda-Itinomon-(Munetoshi)?p=456457#post456457)
Nagura (http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/showthread.php/30464-Nagura-various-including-6-piece-set?p=456460#post456460)
Iwasaki kamisori set (http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/showthread.php/30466-Iwasaki-Kamisori-set-(razor-case-stone)?p=456469#post456469)
Ebony wa-handle (http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/showthread.php/30467-Large-ebony-wa-handle?p=456470#post456470)

You'll have to ask me about shipping. Will of course make deals if for multiple stones/knives/etc.

Sorry, too many listings to do photos and write ups of at the moment, so those will come. Note that I'll only sell some things (marked with an *) if you're buying something else, but these things are worth it if you are. Generally all are cashew-lacquered. The list:

Just got double digits in PMs within a few minutes, so thanks for all this so far! Have to go offline for a while but will return and take care of the details. Will try to follow the order of requests, but please PM rather than post if you'd like something so that it doesn't get too complicated. Posted questions are fine. Thanks

Just a message to the many who've sent PMs - lots - that I've kept track of everything and will be answering in order. Some sold already, some SPF, and some still available. Thanks for the many messages to far.

Hope he doesn't mind, but Enzo's PM box is full and so I'll post my response to him here:

I was wondering if you could recommend one of your jnats for razor finishing. ...
Enzo

... There are 2 that I think of, the #25 harder Ohira ($220) and Ozuku ($330).

Both are very nice. The Ohira is a good deal, and I picked this one up myself after trying about 12 others at Imanishi's in Kyoto, before Imanishi said wait and went to a back room and came back with this, saying 'I like this stone'. It's larger and cheaper than the Ozuku. Sorry no picture at the moment, but can arrange.

The Ozuku has a good background too. Maybe you know TomoNagura.com? When Keith was setting up his site I bought this Ozuku from him. Just checking the site, he still has the picture here but he's unfortunately taken down the description (too many people would ask about it, he said). If I can remember, he thought this was a great razor finisher, great feel and slurry, decent speed but not fast, and so I'll use his words. Ozuku are supposed to be top razor stones, aren't they? I have only the stone, not the nagura in the photo:

Whoops, looks like the photo link didn't work. Try this:

Greets, I too tried to send a pm, touch base when you get a chance...interested in aizu.

Sorry guys. Work and sleep took hold and I didn't notice the box was full, but just cleared it. The posts above are noted along with all received PMs from earlier. By now I've got back at least once to everyone who's PM'd already, but have some follow up to do while also waiting for people to respond to my responses.

In the mean time, thanks to everyone again. Just went through a bunch of stones and got them ready for packing. Some need drying for a day or so, which is safer for shipping. Will let everyone know shipping details when things go out.

As said when I began on Mon or Tues, because of a move I'm only able to work on the sales for a few days and so will need to stop things in the next 24 hours. Be warned! Here are photos of some stones from the still-available the list above:

15) Iyo - 170x80x61mm - 1882g - $90. Lacks a bit of length, but otherwise a big, wide, hefty and solid stone.

16) Kaisei (massive) - 220x95x60mm - 2815g - $170. Rare stone in the vein of Ikarashi and Aizu. Polish your katana

Does the Kaisei behave similarly to Ikarashi or Aizu? Is it only mainly worth using it within the sword polishing sequence?

Yes, it does, though I don't polish swords. From what I know, for the polishers the Aizu was considered a substitute for Kaisei and Ikarashi as a substitute for Aizu. That might not have been everywhere, though, as all 3 are from the eastern (for me northern, but they'll say eastern) part of Honshu, and I think lots of this stuff was localised. You might have heard more about this stone, but I think there are few available and so you don't. Anyway, I like all 3.

Does the Kaisei behave similarly to Ikarashi or Aizu? Is it only mainly worth using it within the sword polishing sequence?

Yes, similar. Sword-wise, I've read that Aizu were considered a substitute for Kaisei, and Ikarashi for Aizu. (May not have been everywhere, as these three stones are all from eastern Honshu, and I think stones had a more local reputation in ages past.) I like all three, have another Kaisei, and have had a few Ikarashi (but no longer). Aizu generally click with me best, however.

I forgot to list the size of this stone previously, but had a few questions about it:

36) Shobu iromono vintage - 184x64x25mm - 700g - $130. A little smaller than normal, but nice price for the quality. Picture above

Iyo - that's the name of the stone, or Iyoto, from Shikoku somewhere (Ehime is the old name, I think). Stone with a big history, and supposedly the oldest 'known' stone mined well before all the Kyoto ones. There are different types I'm not really familiar with - 330mate seems to sell all kinds, but I don't know how good they are. The white ones were the binsui of yesteryear, but now that name is associated with the Amakusa whites. (Similar to Omura stones, once from Kyushu and exhausted I think, and so now the name's given to kishu stones from Wakayama.)

The remaining one is nice wide and solid. It is hard and dense and the feel is okay, will get going on wide bevels and leaves a finish below 1k somewhere but isn't coarse. It's non-porous so keeps a little bit of water well on the surface, and stones like this are good for use with some kind of slurry stone which would also add a little more abrasion. I have an Iyo nagura that would go well with this, for eg, but it's already on its way to Brazil.

This is what's left and will only be able to sell for the next few hours, so let me know asap if anyone would like something more. Most likely will be able to do some kind of discount/deal:

Medium stones:

15) Iyo - 170x80x61mm - 1882g - *$70*
24) Ueno - 199x71x51 - 1781g - $100

Awasedo:

34) Shobu iromono (softer) - 203x73x32mm - 1094g - $230
37) Narutaki awasedo - 202x73x25mm - 982g - $140
38) Vintage kiita 'Motoyama' finisher - 194x72x23mm - 816g - $120

Last few hours for me to sell. Only 15, 34, 37 and 38 are left.

Some explanations in case any of these may still appeal to someone.

15) Iyo - had a question above about these and gave an answer. Also a photo of this one if you'd like to look.

34) Shobu - this one I should have listed as tamago, because of its yellow highlights, rather than iromono. It's on the softer side, say Lv3, and is similar to a Takashima which knife sharpeners often like. Easy to use stone, fine but not too fine, and a nice solid clean specimen. *Discounting now* as I'm keeping the expensive Shobu previously listed. $210 and would cost a lot more through the usual channels. 3 photos:

20161223_022533_zpshorog47h.jpg

37) Narutaki - honest, good awasedo without the frills. Clean hardness around Lv3.5. There are 1 or 2 photos above already.

38) kiita - also already 2 photos above. This is an attractive kiita (yellowish in this case) awasedo with a vintage cut. Not that fine but on the hard side maybe around Lv4. Paid a lot more for it than the offering price
