I have an opportunity to purchase a bucket list knife which means it’s time to sell my second and last Kamimura.
I bought this knife a year or two back directly from Neil. He posted an in progress shot on his IG and I had his phone number from a previous meeting so I called him and successfully begged and pleaded my way into this knife.
Notable things about the knife are that it is his 3rd san mai knife and features a mokume bolster made by Peter Swartz-Burt. With Neil making it, Peter who is also in Hawaii providing the bolster material and the wood being classic Hawaiian koa, he likes to refer to it as his “Triple Hawaiian” knife. He wanted to make it an example of Hawaiian skill and resources.
When I got it, he chose the most expensive shipping option I’ve ever seen and by the time it got to my door it went from the original price of about $2,850 to nearly $3,400. The price made the thought of using it a bit hard to stomach and kind of overshadowed the joy of having the knife for me.
Anyways, I’m now in need of some funds and this knife is clearly never going to be properly appreciated by me.
I don’t want to pass on the Kamimura premium and financial nonsense I went through with this knife so I’ve looked at it objectively compared to the rest of my collection and I think it should be valued at $2,400. Anyways, here’s the details, if you’re interested:
