I bought a bottle of camellia oil on Amazon to use as a preservative on my carbon steel blades. I learned it also works well to add some water resistance to magnolia sayas. My recently purchased sujihiki came with a chestnut handle and it was very light colored. Four light coats of camellia oil brought out a nice color in it too.

Sorry - photos doubled. Can't figure out how to edit/remove duplicates.

nice, works on handle too obviously. Most of the time you might need to oil the wood then let rest then oil again a few times before it gets to a good protection !

Thanks. I oiled the handle four times over two days. I don't remember how many coats I put on the saya.

that should probably do the trick.
Do you mind posting the picture of the blade ? It got me wondering what it is and what it looks like
