I’m with you there. The JNS d handle is ugly at best but with a Japanese-style “pinch” grip, they’re super comfortable, and there’s something right about a humble handle sometimes.

If you don't mind sharing, what handles did you go with and what you liked/disliked about them?

My go-to handle guy was Tony LaSeur. I loved the handles he made for me and they felt great. But now that he's no longer doing handles I haven't been able to find something that feels as good as a regular ho D-shaped handle so rather than throwing more money at custom handles I'm gonna go back to the basics.

I'm trying to replace all of my handles to make them the same so that's the main issue. I replaced one of Tony's handles with a new one but it's not the same so I think I'm done trying and going a different direction. It's mostly my OCD that's getting in the way. ;o)

While I’d never endorse a JNS Ho D, but some of those old Moritaka and Anryu Rosewood D handles were magnificent and well balanced.

You like them fitting for your toyamas only ("slim fit" ;) ) ?

I can ask my handlemaker if he kept the few for toyama and Watanabe i gave him.

He should have way more fat ones (the fitting not the handle), like Shig, and other thick spine workhorses...
