Was curious for any info regarding cleavers made near the city of Zhengzhou. Any recommendations? Also, any recommendations for a cleaver from Wang Ma Zi, Zhang Xiao Quan or Yangjiang Shibazi. Looking for general guidance for something of quality and durability. This is in regard to vegetable cleavers primarily, but open to info on others.

Most of industrial knife manufacturing in China have moved to Yangjiang due to pollution regulations, Wang Ma Zi, Zhang Xiao Quan and many other traditional brand have all moved their manufacturing there or simply just buy OEM blades and put their brand on them. Zhang Xiao Quan is involved in a major controversy recently due to their cleaver broken in half while crushing garlic. If you are interested in buying some nice cleavers I can recommand you some on TaoBao, you can look for someone to buy them for you, shipping usually just take couple days. If you are more interested in local stuff I'd just go to the market, there are usually someone selling no brand carbon steel cleavers there.

I'm also interested in these--especially those that are marketed through AliExpress and AMAZON.
 
After some research something interesting turned out tho, there're some report of a smith certified as national intangible cultural heritage in Zheng zhou area, but I can't find any specific address, maybe you can show someone of the report and ask about it.

Thank you for the information. I am supposed to visit that area in a few months, as long as the area doesn't lock down. I will post anything I find or buy when there!

Have you been to yangjiang? Is it some kind of hellhole or is it an ok place? I always wondered about the scale of the whole place, not a lot of info on the web.

Never been to there but probably not a bad place. They produce alot of things from aboslutely garbage to actual fantastic knives. Knife making itself is not a huge polluting industry, especially compare to mining, automotive manufacturing or actual steel production. They mostly get their steel from somewhere else and make knives. The pollution regulation is more of a excuse for large cities to move light industries like this to other places so they can make space for more profitable stuff like ITs or large banks. YangJiang is not large in Chinese sense, still 2 million people, almost twice the population of Detroit in its peak. Shibazi kind kick start their whole business, and the local government often have incentives and much more relaxed regulations on the knife industry.
