New article on cold forging of steel including what happens to the steel during cold forging, what happens when you heat it up afterward, and how it changes the properties of the final heat treated product. Cold forging is performed by many Japanese bladesmiths so it is a relevant topic when understanding those knives. https://knifesteelnerds.com/2019/03/11/cold-forging-of-steel/

Thank you for your paper. How does Doi’s yakidoshi, his difficult, low-temperature forging technique at the lowest temperature possible, fits into this picture?

I'm not familiar with that. I would need a link.

I’m unfamiliar with it as well, just curious. I tried twice but information in English was rare during my research. I don’t even know “yakidoshi” is the right spelling. Sample of short, generic Korin and c*tg links are below:

The aeb-l paper was also fun. Thank you.

It's probably marketing/selling -talk. what they mean is he forgewelds at a low temperature, which is always desireable in terms of not burning up your steel :)
