haha indeed, lovely silence with the sound of knife scraping stonesThis is when I do all my sharpening stuff! It's peaceful and relaxing and no interruptions.

Good job man! Oh yeah, low spots are tedious and surely not the fun part of polishing.Dunno why I enjoy doing this learning journey late at night, but here's how far I've reached-

Stone polishing my Birgersson from previous coffee etched version- quite a lot of work for me to reset and flatten the bevels, had to go down from 400 to 220 and thinking it's still not fast enough(sore fingers and arms). Finished on Uchi but still couple obvious low spots left on both sides, more hours to go!

haha exactly my situation. would love some evening polishing time but it might result in divorce.Girlfriend try to listen her tv show and I’m like "skrish-skrish-skrish" at 22h in the kitchen

Wow this looks phenomenal! Might I ask what sinkbridge/holder that is? Looks super sturdy!Setup for a lazy weekend of sharpening.

After 3k or so diamond paste is way more effective than sand paper. If you neeed to borrow some pastes you know where to reach me…Polished the hira on this little guy to 1500 grit sandpaper. I thought had finer but apparently I don't, so I'll have to buy some more. Thinking about being a bit ridiculous and going to like 10k with it or something, just for fun

haven’t tried diamond paste but I like Trizact (3k and 8k) for higher grit polishingAfter 3k or so diamond paste is way more effective than sand paper. If you neeed to borrow some pastes you know where to reach me…
Alrighty, considering this practice project done.. for nowso far 4 hours on this as a practice project.

More hours to go on the bevel (and finger tips).
Depends a bit on which NSK you get, but generally the NSK will be harder and coarser. My nanohone 200u resin was closer in speed to my NSK 400 or even 800 and felt quite a bit spongier.I’m curious how this one compares to the NSK 200.
thanks, makes sense. I was thinking about the Hakuto #200. Regular version, without the S.Depends a bit on which NSK you get, but generally the NSK will be harder and coarser. My nanohone 200u resin was closer in speed to my NSK 400 or even 800 and felt quite a bit spongier.
The Nanohone website describes the 100u as a “thinning machine” which I think is really a stretch. The nanohone diamond resin are great for cleaning up coarse scratches and leaving an even polish, but for grinding I’m not sold.
Precisely - much, much faster I thinkso I guess the NSK 200 Hakuto would be faster than my Nano 100, but also leave deeper scratches?
These nanohone diamond resin plates really don't perform anything like their implied grit for grinding oddlyBTW I’m surprised how shallow the Nano 100 scratches are, close to a SG500.
thanks, will try the NSK 200Precisely - much, much faster I think

Nanohone diamond resin 200micron will be slower, finer than NSK 400s for sure. For me, those stones were not tested well enough before they start selling them. They are not crap by any mean but they should not have give a micron abrasive rate like this, but a grit (manufacturer can say whatever he want). The 200 micron is a 500 grit, the 100 micron is a 800 grit. Other problem with those stones is that, no they are not precise : the softness of the resin make you think you have the best shape ever on your knife whereas it is convexifying were you don't want it, like at the shinogi. For me the biggest advantage of those stones is the finish they give : very flattering to the eyes. I could just finish a knife with a 200 or 100 micron and it would look very nice satin finish. They will be good at blending the surface of the bevel too.thanks, will try the NSK 200
yeah the grit rating is weird… I don’t think the Nano100 is faster than my SG220. probably similar speed. but it has its advantages - no need to lap, much less messy, doesn’t require much pressure, fine scratches (500-600) and the precision. still I wish it was faster a bit.
Thanks Milan. I used the stone a bit more this morning and my experience is showing similar to yours.Nanohone diamond resin 200micron will be slower, finer than NSK 400s for sure. Can you please elaborate on your terminology hereThe diamonds are rounded so they cut out more than they do in like sharp diamonds do
